Birding

Wetlands

Our region offers exquisite opportunities for bird viewing. The rainfall and water levels play a huge role in the amount of birds in the area, so the best time of year to view bird is September –  March. The first waders also arrive in September.

The Coffee Shoppe and Information Centre in Chrissiesmeer both provide birding route maps. The route is a circular drive of 60km, mainly on gravel roads. The best birding spots are marked on the map.

We have a specialist available to take birders on a tour of the water birds in the region, during birding season. Please contact us for pricing and arrangements. We have permission to enter private land and can show you some special areas. Please provide your own vehicle – a pickup is recommended.
